Grom Nation is a grass-roots charity based on Siargao Island - the surfing capital of the Philippines. We challenge social issues we see in the community through unique surfing, sports and social activities.
We use surfing as a mechanism of engagement for kids to participate in our long-term mentorship program that educates the youth on the Island about social issues that they will definitely come across. We help equip them with the knowledge to know how to deal with these issues when they come across them. For example, drug and alcohol abuse, sexual harassment, bullying, poor mental and physical health, consent and much more.
We also rent out our donated surfboards and the funds go into the community through resources for education, water filters, mosquito nets, feeding programs and local health clinics etc.
We are trying to create long term solutions to poverty by improving school attendance/school performance and giving children the skills and opportunities that will help them blossom in the future. We are also trying to ensure that children play a key role in preserving their island and in improving their local community.
